MOBILE, Alabama - Bay Fest Information and Safety Tips

As Bay Fest kicks into gear this Friday, October 2nd through October 4th, the Mobile Police Department would like to emphasize some safety tips, information, and recommendations for the upcoming event.

• Attend the event with family or friends.
• Park in designated areas.
• Secure important belongings inside of vehicles and out of view.
• Parents should place an identity card in their child’s pocket in the event they become separated from one another. The card should provide the name of the child, address, telephone contact numbers and the name of a relative.
• In the event that parents and children are separated, the children should be instructed to go to nearest police officer.
• Adults are encouraged to establish a post-event meeting place for family and friends in case you become separated.
• Wear light clothing, comfortable shoes, sunglasses, and sunscreen or a hat.
• Drink lots of fluids to stay hydrated.
• A city ordinance strictly forbids glass containers in public.
• No underage drinking is allowed. Uniformed and special undercover police details will arrest violators.
• If you need police assistance during the event, advise the nearest uniformed officer.
• Please cooperate with all requests from police officers.
• Mobile Police will enforce a “no weapons” policy. Persons found in possession of weapons will be arrested. Pistol permits do not allow possession of firearms during Bay Fest.
• Uniformed and plainclothes officers will be patrolling designated areas of the crowds to identify and arrest persons engaging in criminal activity.
• Pets are prohibited during Bay Fest, except for special assistance animals.
• Skateboards and motorized scooters are prohibited.

You heard it folks so stop on by my both and get your N1H1 full face gas mask with the screw on beer hose for $19.95, that’s right $19.95. Tell them icky told you and get 10o/o off the duel beer bong hose sold separate and get a free Pee Wee bayfest bump sticker “if you aint a drinkin you must need a spankin” party on dude.

The public health officials have been warning everyone about the high possibility of getting the H1N1 virus (aka swine flu) while attending big events such as this. There is no way to know which person has it or not. It doesn’t take much to get it. Just rubbing up against someone, or getting sneezed on or around can transmit the disease to you.  The health department officials will not be screening anyone that attends BayFest, so it is highly probable that a person (or many) will be there with the flu and spread it to anyone they get around. If one person gets the H1N1 flu, it can cause an epidemic with many others catching the illness and spreading it themselves when they leave BayFest. Right now, the vacine has not been distributed yet, so it can become a major thing immediately after being exposed to a carrier. JMO

Bayfest used to be alcohol-free and then the city did not make much money, so the greedy city leaders changed it to allow alcohol and now they are drawing large crowds of people that go there to listen to the music and drink.  That is their idea of fun.  You’re right, BayFest and New Year’s are mainly for adults - and families beware. Public drunkeness is encouraged by the city (although not publicly), because intoxicated people tend to spend more money than sober ones, especially on more drinks and other things, during these events. Money means everything. That is why they ban people from bringing their own drinks and snacks to BayFest. They loosely enforce the public intoxication laws, DUI, and indecent exposure laws at BayFest, New Year’s, and Mardi Gras, because it encourages people to spend money downtown. Children are allowed, but I don’t think that they enjoy themselves very much with the drunks and other questionable people that always take advantage of the lax public intoxication laws during these events.  Too bad - everyone should be able to enjoy themselves. But, unfortunately, this is one of the major money-making events for the city and the mayor and city council will not change it to non-alcohol unless something drastic happens because of the alcohol. Why cant BayFest be Alchol FREE? After all there are kids that attend this function. Neway, what parent would want there child around some drunk fool. To me BayFest is just one huge party that only adults should be able to attend.  Its basically like an outside bar/concert. For heaven’s sakes I know I wouldnt’ want to deal with my toddler at such an event as BayFest.  Thats why I dont’ attend it! Maybe they should consider one day of the event for families with children..no alchol

I noticed that there is no mention of enforcing the public intoxication laws and the DUI laws. I guess that the LE officers will turn a blind eye to these events because the city wants the income from people who spend a bunch of money after they get a few drinks inside of them. Too bad - the safety of the people that do not attend needs to be protected, too. JMO

don’t forget the hand sanitizer.  It seems that illnesses go up every year right after Bay Fest due to all the close contact.  Mardi Gras also.
