Prichard may be leaning towards a private company to help with their water woes but the battle isn't over yet. The water board's attorney Willie Huntley says Mobile Area Water and Sewer missed a deadline last month. That's when the water board received several management and operations bids from other companies.

Monday the board authorized Huntley to begin contract negotiations with Severn Trent. The private company has helped run Prichard's waste water plant for the past 2 years. Senator Vivian Davis Figures says choosing a private company could cause more problems for Prichard. She wants Prichard to give MAWSS three more weeks to submit their paperwork. "The board believes that this company can more efficiently operate the whole system. They've shown it with the waste water plant, now the board is just expanding it to other areas,"Said Huntley. "All we're asking them to do is just before they go into any contractual agreement with a private company to at least wait until they get the information from MAWSS, so that MAWSS can tell them without a shadow of a doubt if they are able to lower the rates," Said Figures. Huntley says while the water board is still evaluating Figures' request, a merger with MAWSS could still be a possibility.

I would love to know what Prichards doing with all the money their making off all of the water bills, because they can’t send out updated reports, l got home and had a Water Works & Sewer Board of the City of Prichard (Consumer Confidence Report 2008) last time l checked we were in the year 2009 and 2009 isn’t mentioned anywhere in it.

Prichard doesn’t want MAWSS to take over because then they will really be in trouble.  Not just for what their charging residents for Water, MAWSS will find out that they’re not treating the water like its suppose to be treated.  It’s bad when you have to call them out to flush the fire hydrogen on the road you live on because you have algae growing in your toliets and thats not because you don’t keep them clean and have to pour bleach down your pipes to get rid of the smell from the water.  The water we have in Prichard you can’t even drink it because it stinks and has stuff in it unless you buy one of those filteration pitchers like we did or buy drinking water.

Maybe District Attorneys will find something? And some of these people may be in real trouble, thats why they don’t MAAWS involved they know they will find the inconsisties…

Once again, these individuals in Pricahrd have proven themsleves incapable of governing themselves appropriately. It just doesn’t seem to matter WHO is on the board, they all wind up in the same situation. Does no one else here see a pattern? Sadly, Mobile seems to be following suit…

Maybe the Water Board needs Water Boarding.

agree mike

kick these crooks out of Prichard and let MAWSS take over,we need someone who knows how to run a business and that has the resources to do the job.most of these board members should be in jail, they have been corrupt for years and continue to take advantage of Prichard’s low income residents.
