The man who hit and killed two Baldwin County bicyclists on Labor Day in 2007 has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge.

Patrick Ballard was originally charged with murder for the deaths of Archie Clemons and Bill Imle. Prosecutors say Ballard was drunk at the time of the accident on Bromley Road near Stapleton.

Ballard was scheduled to go to trial February second, but he pleaded guilty to manslaughter on Thursday afternoon. As part of the plea deal, he was sentenced to 20 years in prison on both counts. The judge ruled Ballard will serve the sentences consecutively. He faces up to 40 years in jail.

Orangep33L this accident? —- Are you serious—- This guy killed 3 people on 2 different drunk driving wrecks. He got what He deserved. They should have put him to death.

Patrick is a good person and my friend. This has affected a lot of people. I pray the family will forgive PAT. God will be with you PAT! The community will need a lot of time to heal from this accident since a lot people were hurt.

Not the first.One the worst cases of target fixation I’ve heard of. He will be up for parole in about 12yrs. I reckon it’ll be safe to ride my bike in B/C till then. His driving privilege should be revoked for life. Driving is NOT a right!

Maybe that will keep the guy off the road. I’m surprised they didn’t come down harder on the guy. Those weren’t the first and only bicyclists he killed, were they?
