BAY MINETTE, Alabama - The Baldwin County Board of Education says the budget crisis could cripple the already struggling school district.

"We're in a horrific situation in Baldwin County," says school spokesman Terry Wilhite. "If revenue relief is not found, you'll see schools close, you'll see additional employees laid off."

School officials would not officially confirm what schools could close, but did tell us Stapleton School could be on the economic chopping block.

"Anytime there's a lower student count with a higher operational cost, those schools are always in contention when times get tough," says Wilhite.

Stapleton Elementary has less than 300 students and closing the school would save the district millions of dollars...money needed to help offset a major budget shortfall. To avoid school closing and more layoffs, the Board of Education says they will either have to borrow money or get federal and state relief. But in a time of proration and recession, both options could be impossible.

Turn off some lights, stop wasting money on replacing entire HV/AC systems instead of maintaining them, administrators need to multi task and let the kids do some yardwork!

There you go BOE! Find a solution to hurt the kids AGAIN! The Central office is so overloaded with Supervisors who make WAY too much- have they even thought to cut them? Or cut salaries. Pam McCutchin and her crew, along with Hollinger, are playing games folks. They have entirely too many people pulling big salaries at Central. Investigate that and get a real eye-opener. But until folks ban together and speak up, our kids will pay the price.

Most school employees want to know why we need a “communications director” i.e. Terry Whilhite.  Is it worth his large salary (double or more what a teacher makes, triple a custodian/bus driver) just to have someone to talk to the media?  Most employees are capable of speaking intelligently to the media if there are any questions.

Seems to me they keep coming up with ways to make all these cuts but keep coming back and saying how even more they are in debt.  I think it’s past time for an audit.  Gross misuse of funds.
