AUBURN, Ala. (AP) - New Auburn football coach Gene Chizik says he understands the expectations for winning as he takes over following the departure of Tommy Tuberville.Chizik said Monday he knows he will be judged on winning
championships. And the former assistant to Tuberville said he plans
to succeed and eventually retire from Auburn someday.
Many fans are criticizing Chizik's hiring because of his record
at Iowa State, where he lost his last 10 games and finished 5-19.
But Auburn athletic director Jay Jacobs said Chizik had a good plan
for turning around the Cyclones' program.
Jacobs said he was impressed with Chizik's plan for moving
forward at Auburn, where Tuberville's last season ended with a
record of 5-7.
