Arrests Made In Figures Center Shooting

Shooting Prichard Three teens are charged with murder after the shooting death of a 15-year-old.

Three people are charged in the shooting death of a Mobile teenager. Police have charged 16-year-old Montreall Lockett and two other 15 year-olds with murder. 15-year-old Markel Anderson was hit by gunfire outside the Michael A. Figures Community Center Friday evening. He was taken USA Medical center and pronounced dead. Today friends put stuffed animals and a cross on the spot where Anderson was shot. Donald Street neighbors say violence here is not uncommon.

“I can't say about that because this really isn't the first time someone got shot, it's the first time somebody died but it ain't the first time anyone got shot,” says Jamal Young. He says he was nearby when the shooting happened. Police say the shooting is part of an ongoing dispute between the suspects from Prichard and members of the Toulmonville community. The 15-year-old suspects are in custody at the Strickland Youth Center.

At 16, he could only legally have a hunting rifle, which I’m guessing he didn’t.

I feel as though I live in Compton not Mobile. I send prayers up for the mother. I have three teenagers and I would just .... I don’ wont to think about it. Children were safe at the park or community center. Now youy have take a bodyguard with you.

I really want to know what kind of dispute leads to teenagers shooting and KILLING another teenager. It is very sad and disheartening that a 15 year can’t go to a community center and just a be a 15 year old and then get shot.
Scuroy you are so right that it is does start with the parents and parents need to start parenting and knowing what’s going on with their kids. I’m 21, almost 22 and can remember being 15 and I had a lot of arguements and plenty of disputes but never even thought about shooting one of them because of it. It’s just tragic and I hope these killers do not get let back into society, they obviously can’t handle it.

Very well said, Scuroy. I agree with you, it does start with the parents. There is, however, the negative influence of media and society that perpetuates an ever increasing degredation of values and regard for human life. While there are some rap artists that try to have a positive message in their music, there are far too many “rap artists” who preach violence, murder, theft and this “thug” “gangsta life” etc. All of these things are detrimental to the behavior and formative ideas of impressionable kids. These acts are glorified by main-stream media and so these “children” strive to be like their role models. Rather than try to work out a disagreement in a rational manner, they decide to mimic what these “gangsta thugs” do in their videos and on their CD’s… “Kill dat fool”...etc. Ridiculous! It is an endless cycle of violence that plagues younger generations and ends a life needlessly. For all we know, Markel could have grown up to discover a cure for cancer.

Here’s the deal Mobile, our children aren’t being raised correctly. They have no conflict-resolution skills. I work with behavioral disturbed children and this begins with the parents.Where is the value of life? These things have to be taught! Markel was at my home on last Saturday, he was friends with my daughter, this is disheartening and devastating; especially to his parents. Mobile, we need to work with our children and teach them that life is valuable and death is final. I could go on and on about society,video games, etc. however it still starts with the parents!
