MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - A Mobile police officer has been reassigned
to administrative duty during an investigation of an arrest that
was caught on video at the end of a police chase.
Police Chief Philip Garrett made the announcement Tuesday
regarding the July 23 arrest of 34-year-old David Andrew Pate,
whose jail picture shows cuts and bruises across his forehead, nose
and below the eyes.
The video, captured by a spectator and posted on YouTube about a
week ago, shows an officer raising his arm several times but the
angle does not show what is being struck.
Garrett said the officer's name won't be released. He said part
of the investigation involves how Pate's injuries came about.
Records at the Mobile County Metro Jail show Pate was charged
with first-degree criminal mischief, first-degree kidnapping and
third-degree domestic violence.

Freedom, It sounds as though you are a “Seasoned Veteran” of our society, most likely retired. Todays LOE’s are not dealing with Mayberry type crimes. I agree, some LEO’s are crooked and go overboard in apprehention of criminals. There are good and bad in ALL, including police protection. It appears you feel un-appreciated for your dedicated services. Rest assured, I appreciate your service since you appear to be an upstanding LEO. The saying “Let your conscience be your guide” seems appropriate here. Corruption? Its everywhere, look at Federal Government. Your conscience led you to leave law enforcement. Good move. Mobile is NOT Mayberry, its a tough town. In todays time you must treat “Fire With Fire” or you could be killed. We all have a conscience and live with it. Learn to look forward, dont dwell on the past. Yes, let the young guys handle it, this is a different generation today and punks need to be dealt with severely, even if it includes a “KNOT ON THE HEAD”. So, you made the right choice, let the “Young guys handle it”.

Gee-just when I thought racism was not alive anymore-Sexy N and kwb prove that theory wrong.

Well Turnip I guess yer right in that I see this as a young man’s job now, but my reasons for leaving were varied. There was a ton of corruption that I wasn’t willing to be a part of, and I ain’t covering someone’s a$$ while exposing my own to the elements if you follow me. I have lived in the same area all my life, less for my militry service and I am not going to duck behind a grocery aisle because I am embarrased by what my department did to John Q Public. No, the way I see it is I took two oaths to serve, protect and defend the Constitution for the united states of America. I took those oaths seriously, and they didn’t come with a time line so that my oath ends when I decide not to honor it anymore. I see it as an obligation I will carry all my life. I have a duty to protect my God given rights, yours and anyone else’s who find themselves defenseless. I guess I was cursed with a conscious. There were times when I wanted to write a prescription for some 45. calibre therapy for some dirtbags, particularly those who harm kids , or hurt women, but my obligations are to still allow the law to work its ends even if I don’t wholy agree with its ends. There are stil some real professional officers out there and then there are some who need to trade places with the inmates in prison, sometimes its hard to tell the difference in their actions. I just try to keep the faith in that people are still good natured for the most part. I have seen the best and worst in humanity.Still smilin

SEXY N Says: It’s mighty funny all the comments on here, you all feel sorry for this guy. For what? If he was black then I guess all the comments would read he got what he deserve.

Are you a race baiter? Don’t see a single comment from anyone that feels sorry for this thug. Why do you have to throw in race?

You used to be one? Now you’re just a pot stirrer and a boot licker. Some people can’t tell dog poop for shoe polish. If the shoe fits, wear it. This guy just wears his up side his head. This cop did not cross the line. He just walked right up to it. Just the kind of cop we need for the dirt bags trying to run us over. There are other places to live they need to go live there and maybe you do to, don’t let the door hit you mate. Cheers!

In this case, I guess we all are equal in this situation. He got what he deserved, except he got the white man treatment.

It’s mighty funny all the comments on here, you all feel sorry for this guy. For what? If he was black then I guess all the comments would read he got what he deserve.

Freedom, your a “HAS BEEN”. I’m a “HAS BEEN” Drinker and Smoker, but I dont condemn people who do that stuff. So, let the “FUZZ” do their jobs, and if that includes a little show of force to these punks, so be it. This guy ran from the law in a vehicle chase. Remember the little girl that just got KILLED from a high speed chase? I do. You didn’t resign because your a “SOFTEE” like Paula Abdul did you?

Old story new comment. I can see how folks may think the guy got what was coming to him at the hands of the fuzz, however it is not the duty of the police to administer their own street justice on anyone period. While some may sit back and say thye should have banged his head on the car door and so forth and so on, make no mistake about it you are no different to the cops than this guy, and when you get pulled over and don’t produce you ID fast enough and get 300,000 volts blasted through you and your head bounces off the door jamb you may not have enough brain cells left to say anything in your own defense. What ever happened to the presumption of innocent till PROVEN guilty? Cops have too much power, I know I used to be one.

Gee, soyouwillknow-MAYBE, because the media thinks potty issues are more important than the hundreds of people who arrested for bigger crimes? Good grief, check the public records/jail log and ask why they(the media) are so interested in potty talk, instead of rapists, drug dealers and thieves! Your true stories will come from looking at the arrest logs at MCSO,NOT from the media. The LE ARE doing their jobs, and a GREAT job at that-the media chooses which way to run with it!
