Dozens of military men were getting their motors running. More than 60 members of Mudcat Riders group ended a 100 mile trip from Fort Shelby in Mississippi at the USS Alabama this morning, Friday, June 26th, 2009. Many members are active duty military. The group seeks to encourage safety among new and old motorcycle riders alike.

“There have been 19 motorcycle fatalities in the 1st Army area this year and what we're trying to do is reduce that fatality rate and get exposure to our riders,” says Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Anthony Scotto. Organizers say this was the largest all-military ride in the area. They hope they can be an example of safe motorcycle use on public roads.

Yes a great story and great cause. My hat is off to all the military defending our country. May you be safe and are able to come back home to us safe.

An excellent cause! I wish that more people who drive cars would better look out for motorcycle riders. There are many men and women who ride and have senseless accidents from motorists who do not pay attention to motorcycle riders. As the patch reads “Loud pipes save lives” other motorists need to listen and observe.

glad to see any story that heightens motorcycle awareness, ride safe guys!.

Scott-please tell your dad (and family) from the bottom of my heart, I appreciate all they do for our country! God Bless!

I was so excited to be at the USS Alabama today and support my dad, LTC Anthony Scotto, and our troops as they all exemplified a good sense of character by bringing awareness to motorcycle safety in their ride today.

I wish the actual news report was posted online - oh well.

May we all continue to support our troops and drive safely on our roads.

Yes it is a great cause and I always enjoy seeing these riders on the roads. They are always polite themselves and respect the laws all while having to be extra cautious with all of the lunatic drivers out there.  The younger riders are sometimes a different story popping their bikes up and standing on the seats (yes I’ve seen it) crazy I know. But the LE seems to have an equal amount of respect for the more established riders and it’s just nice to see them appreciate each other the way they do. Be careful out there bikers and I will remember to give you your safe space.

Great cause! I saw these guys this morning, and they were very courteous drivers, and even saluted the officers escorting them.
