ORANGE BEACH, Ala. (AP) - Police say alcohol was a factor in the
boat crash near Ono Island that killed two of the seven people on
the vessel.
Marine Police Officer Mark Parden says Phillip Driver of
Pensacola was steering the 31-foot Cape Horn when it slammed into
tiny Rabbit Island at about 2:30 a.m. Sunday at high speed.
Parden describes Driver as being impaired by alcohol and says a
Baldwin County grand jury is expected to consider possible criminal
charges.
Driver's mother, 66-year-old Nancy Driver, and his sister,
44-year-old Kathryn Liscoe, died at the crash scene in Old River.
Only one of the others was not hospitalized.
The group had traveled from a Perdido Key, Fla., condominium to
a marina restaurant and bar in Orange Beach before the crash.

The thing to do now is lower the drinking age to 18 so more of this can happen…...... I have zero sympathy for these people.

RNuts:  Well said.

Where they were was completely inland. They were in a 31 foot boat. Even a small bass boat can navigate there on the windiest days. But, they were parting instead of thinking of safety. They could have used a taxi cab if there was not going to be a designated driver.

Truly sad. But why were they out in the boat on the eve of a hurricane coming? Wasn’t that dangerous to begin with? I love to go night fishing on my husbands boat, but I would never go out when the seas were what I would imagine them to have been at that time.

This is truly traggic in so many levels.  But it is against the law to boat while under the influence just as it is to drive while under the influence.  The sad part of all of this is is that I am sure they were having a wonderful evening with family and then something so senseless happened.  My thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by this.

I agree. I was just thinking of the mental punishment this guy will endure knowing that he killed his mother and sister. I hate it for him, but he needs to be punished. I have been boating in that area at night while sober and do not feel safe enough to run fast.

To kill someone is tragic, but to be responsible for the death of your own loved one must beat all! My prayers are with this family!
