Alabama's controversial insurance commissioner is stepping down.
Governor Bob Riley says Walter Bell's resignation will be effective at the end of the month.
Bell was appointed by Governor Riley in 2003.
The Governor's Office did not give a reason for Bell's resignation. But, the mobile native has come under fire from Gulf Coast homeowners in recent years for skyrocketing insurance rates.
News 5's Jessica Taloney sat down with Commissioner Bell for an exclusive interview just last month. Click here to see what he had to say.

As I stated a while back he wouldn’t be in office much longer, now let’s watch and see if he gets another job that’s related to the insurance companies. It’d be interesting to see what benefits he gets from the state also.
