BREAKING NEWS

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - Mark Gottfried is out as the head
basketball coach at Alabama.
The schoool released a statement Monday saying Gottfried had
resigned effective immediately. Assistant coach Phillip Pearson
will take over as the interim head coach.
Gottfried was in his 11th year at Alabama. The Tide's record
this year is 12-7, 2-3 in the Southeastern Conference.
Gottfried's teams have missed the NCAA tournament the last two
years, and the coach has been criticized over the recent departure
of All-American point guard Ronald Steele. The school blamed
Steele's departure on an injury, but Steele said there was more to
his decision than that.

I am sorry to see Mr. Gottfried go. He and his entire family are a bonus to Alabama athletics. Thankfully, they are supportive of each other and recognize that fans, players and universities are fickle.
