MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Alabama's unemployment rate has risen to
10.2 percent, which is the highest figure in more than 25 years.
The state Department of Industrial Relations announced Friday
that the rate rose from 10.1 percent in June to 10.2 percent in
July. Alabama hasn't recorded a rate that high since unemployment
reached 10.4 percent in April 1984.
The July figure represents more than 215,000 Alabamians out of
work.
Counties with the lowest unemployment rates are Shelby at 7.6
percent, Madison at 7.9 percent, and Baldwin at 8.5 percent. The
highest rates are Wilcox at 24.9 percent, Dallas at 21.1 percent,
and Perry at 20.0 percent.

These stats do not count the long term unemployed who are no longer receiving benefits.

Yes!  Change we can believe in!  Can’t wait for the next round of stimulants.

I thought this new administration was elected to come in and fix the economy. That’s what they promised during the campaign.  I thought this so called “stimulus” plan was supposed to curb unemployment and create new jobs. What a waste! And now these guys want to run YOUR healcare. Thats “CHANGE” that I do not want. No thanks Obama.

cmb1, I paid unemployment taxes for over 30 years. I lost my job due to cutbacks and downsizing. Thank the Lord I’m back working now. It was not welfare. Do you think if I had not lost my job that I would have ever seen one penny of that money? I hope it never happens again and I hope it never happens to you.

The people that draw unemployment have paid into the system by pay deductions and are intitled to the benefits. The benefits are not welfare.

It’s not that most people can’t find a job. They had rather sit home and draw off the government. No it might not be the job they want but its a job. just watch when benefits run out they will go to work (or excuse me on welfare).

Ditto!!  At least Alabama has finally become an Extended Benefit state. This way, those that lost their jobs and were running out of benefits can now get an additional 20 weeks of unemployment compensation. Florida has had to renew their extended benefits program about three times so far this year with so many people still not able to find employment.

Lock your doors my friends.
