MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Alabama state employees suffering from
obesity and three other health problems will eventually have to pay
extra for their health insurance if they don't try to control their
problems.
The State Employees' Insurance Board has approved a plan that
will charge state workers an extra $25 per month, starting January
2010, if they don't have a free health screening. If the screening
turns up no problems, they don't have to pay the $25 in the future.
If the screening turns up serious problems with blood pressure,
cholesterol, glucose or obesity, then employees will have one year
to see a doctor, enroll in a wellness program or take other steps
to improve their health. If they do, they won't have to pay the $25
monthly. But if they don't, they will have to pay the $25 per month
starting in January 2011.

Yes, it’s so easy to just push away from the table that 65% of us are fatties. Two thirds of us are too stupid to put 2+2 together and lose wght. Tax payers need to stop funding research regarding obesity, it’s simple… just don’t eat. All you folks who can’t afford anything but Mac and Cheese with Hotdogs and ketchup as your veggies need to eat less of that garbage and get off your duffs. It’s all your fault!

Give me a break! Don’t you just love truly simple minded minions?

MeAmerican, well you know more than the researchers.  i found the article on sky news. lol but hey you never know.

I don’t believe some of you actually read the story, they are giving the employees FREE exams to CHECK for possible problems, meaning the employees will find out for free if they have a potential problem. Then the employee can seek further advice on changing their lifestyle to fix the problem, or help control it if they do this then they won’t have to pay extra in insurance.  If the employee doesn’t do anything to make thier health risk better then they pay more.  I believe this is fine, If you want to live an unhealthy lifestyle then why should I as a taxpayer help pay for your healthcare later in life because you DIDN’T want to give up some bad habits earlier in your life. If the employee at least tries to better thier health then they don’t pay more. If they don’t ge tthe exam or try to change thier health then they pay more, seems reasonable to me.

Oh please! It has everything to do with the calories taken end against calories burned. If blaming it on your genes helps you sleep at night then alright. One day reality may sneak up on you and convince some people to move the shovel away from the table and to start using a baby spoon.
Remember; Only you can prevent obesity. It’s certainly not my fault!! Though I don’t mind expressing my professional opinion.

Obesity is more likely to be caused by genetics and not eating and exercise habits, according to new research.

Government Welfare Programs?  What is that supposed to mean?

Yeah you guys bring up a great point, what disorder is next? Wait ‘till they nail parents for birth defects that are preventable. They all ready drag their feet when some catastrophic illness hits. Can you imagine the screaming folks will do when THEY won’t pay for treatment when your liver fails because you drank too many beers?

I can only imagine the conversation in the HR office.  Hey homer I got by with this we made money off of a jacking people over now I’m a getting about a 1% cut, hee hee hee. It’s called the incentive program and paid for by me and you so someone who can’t pay their bills can get a little piece of the pie.  Be careful of the stones that you throw they may come back to hit you in the b…

Give them an inch and they will take a mile, they are all about the money.  If they get by with this the next thing they will do is DNA test and decide if you are genetically predisposed to certain conditions you will pay more.  All of you that this does not affect, go ahead and back this they will have you next.  We need your DNA, what is your family history.  With a magnifying glass you can find anything and then capitalize on it. He who laughs last laughs best and if anyone backs this only the companies that are doing this will laugh in the end…...

I commend the State of Alabama in this endeavor and hope this incentive propagates swiftly and nationally into other government welfare programs.
Cheers, Jim
