MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - Alabama Power Co. is exploring the option of
generating electricity by burning wood or other renewable fuels at
one of its coal-fired plants.
The state's largest electric utility expects to complete a study
in the second half of this year.
A company manager, Chris Habig, says Alabama Power will make a
decision once the study is done.
Habig says the study is part of Alabama Power's general planning
activities. He says higher costs for coal and other fuels make a
switch economically attractive for the first time.

What expense is involved in producing “Biocoal”?

there are emerging techiniques like biocoal, e coal which are eco frfienly and the overall cost of using ecoal is much less as compared to using coal. when using coal, ther need for filters and scrubbers would be felt, in this case with e coal there is no waste gas like sulphur dioxide, or no problems with flyash and the ash content is also very less. this might do good to reduce the cost of elecgtricity and have a cleaner environmental as well.

Ugh! Anything to make it more affordable! When I moved in here in June, my power bill ran between $40 and $70, now the last three months it has been $154, $128, and $108.
