MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - Alabama Power Co. is exploring the option ofgenerating electricity by burning wood or other renewable fuels at
one of its coal-fired plants.
The state's largest electric utility expects to complete a study
in the second half of this year.
A company manager, Chris Habig, says Alabama Power will make a
decision once the study is done.
Habig says the study is part of Alabama Power's general planning
activities. He says higher costs for coal and other fuels make a
switch economically attractive for the first time.
