MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Students, teachers and staff at Mobile'sGeorge Hall Elementary School were honored by the Alabama
Legislature for improved academic performance over the past five
years.
Lawmakers held a ceremony in the House chamber before the start
of the 2009 session Tuesday recognizing the achievements at the
inner city school. House Speaker Seth Hammett recognized 28 honor
roll students from the school during the ceremony.
Teacher Amy Lowe said the school's staff and faculty were
completely switched out five years ago and since then student
achievement has soared.
She said the school's academic performance is in the top 10
percent in the state. The students attending Tuesday's session are
members of the National Elementary Honor Society.
