MONTGOMERY, Alabama - A national survey says Alabama is one of
only three states that gives no subpoena power to its ethics
commission.
The Alabama Ethics Commission cannot force people to appear
before it or to turn over documents.
The National Conference of State Legislatures reports that state
ethics panels in North Carolina and Michigan are in the same
predicament.
Although Alabama's Ethics Commission is among the country's
weakest, 10 states have no ethics panels at all, according to the
February 2008 survey. Some of the strongest ethics commissions can
be found in Alabama's neighbor states. Ethics agencies in Georgia,
Tennessee and Mississippi can both issue subpoenas and give orders
that are enforceable in court. Just 11 states entrust their ethics
panels with both powers, according to the survey.

Just prove me wrong. If you can. I like where I live just fine thank you. No need to move. Only to change things for the better. We are a republic not a democracy, some people have forgotten this. We have a Constitution and we should use it. Why do you insist on attacking the messenger? Typical really.Argue the facts instead. No lawyer proved anything to me, atleast not with anything that wasn’t copied from wikipedia.

I think a certain attorney on here already proved you wrong on that one…...Fried or stewed?

free. Why don’t you get out of America before you bust a vein. There are plenty of other places where you can go and maybe one of them will suit you better.

Here’s a little info. After the Erie Railroad v Tompkins case in 1938 all courts stopped operating with common law and operate now via the UCC in maritime admiralty law , military law! All of them including traffic.SO all law is based on commerce and contract.Don’t believe me? Call any attorney and ask about admiralty and see how fast they hang up the phone on you. This is not the same govt. your great grand pa had. In fact it isn’t a govt at all it operates as a De facto since the nation went bankrupt in 1933. It is a corporation for profit and you ,your body, and your signature are its source of profit. A credit account was taken out by the treasury in your all capitalized name(strawman)via your birth certificate and a security bond was placed on it and it is traded on the world market via the IMF. Prove I am lying and I’ll eat crow, but I assure you this is correct.Research people research.

It is Unethical to have a ethics comission.

We need to do away with the Ethics comission, it’s a waste of money. Let the court system take over.

This needs to be corrected immediately.  Many feel that our politicians are misusing public money and taking advantage of their political positions for personal gain.  The primary purpose of public office is to serve the people that elected them into office, not to use their positions of power to boost their personal agendas over the will of the people.  The attitude of “It’s going to happen whether you like it or not!” is the remark of a politician who is only out to prove how much disregard he/she has for the will of the people and to show the citizens how powerful he/she is over the people.  This ethics question also applies to cities that use certain rules to annex areas of a county into the city while only allowing people to vote for the annexation that will vote “yes” and shutting out all others because they might vote “no”. Both of these situations have occurred in Mobile, Alabama and both caused a large amount of the population to finally realize what kind of leaders that Mobile actually has. These things have caused major problems with the majority of the citizens ever trusting the leadership again. Unethical behavior on the part of politicians is inexcusable and they should be held accountable for their actions. This also includes the spending of taxpayer money, which must be controlled and the city leaders not allowed to spend this money in any way that they wish. People want their leaders to be investigated and,if they are found to be guilty, to be punished. JMO
