HENAGER, Ala. (AP) - A nine-year-old DeKalb County boy who was
severely burned in a fire has died of his injuries.
Henager police and fire department officials said the tragic
accident happened Tuesday morning outside a residence in Henager.
Investigators said the boy and his 10-year-old brother
apparently decided to build a small fire to keep warm after they
missed their school bus.
Henager Fire Chief Winston Busby said the 9-year-old poured
gasoline on the fire causing an explosion that set the youngster's
clothing on fire.
The boy suffered burns over 90 percent of his body and was
airlifted to Children's Hospital in Birmingham where he died
Tuesday night.
The older sibling had minor burns and was treated and released.
The boys' names were withheld.
The state Fire Marshal's Office and the state Department of
Human Resouces are assisting in the investigation.

Yeah… really… where did they get the gasoline?  Did they siphon it out of a car?

Were they locked out of the home?? Was there no neighbor’s house to go to?? How were they able to start a fire, but not make a phone call?? Kids these days have lighters, matches, and gasoline but no cell phone?

People really should try to educate their children about possible situations like this.

Our prayers are with the family.

This is so sad. With the ice storm blanketing the eastern part of the country - I bet we hear more of these kinds of stories. I bet the child saw an adult do something like this before.

That news just made me sick to my stomach.  Awful.

This is becoming a common occurence it seems.  Parents or anyone who is around children, need to stop for a moment and explain that gasoline and fire does not mix.  I myself every time I hear of something like this particular situation, or one that involves accidents on ATV’s, and idiots behind the wheel of a car, I tell my nephews about it and hope it scares the thought out of them at least.
