MONTGOMERY, Alabama - Alabama has moved into a Top Ten list it didn't want.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics says Alabama's 10.7 percent
unemployment rate for September ranks 10th worst among the 50
states. Alabama was about in the middle of the states a year ago
when its jobless rate was 5.4 percent.

Alabama's change of 5.3 percentage points during the last year
is the third highest in the country. The director of the Center for
Business and Economic Research at the University of Alabama, Sam
Addy, says the recession hit Alabama later than many states, but
the impact has been great because of the loss of manufacturing
jobs.

1. Michigan - 15.3%
2. Nevada - 13.3%
3. Rhode Island - 13.0%
4. California - 12.2%
5. South Carolina - 11.6%
6. Oregon - 11.5%
7. Florida - 11.0%
8. Kentucky - 10.9%
9. North Carolina - 10.8%
10. Alabama - 10.7%

* Mississippi - 9.2%

Correction - Mobile is a safe-haven for some, but many people do not venture into the city unless they absolutely have to go there - and never at night or alone.  Mobile’s reputation has taken a beating during the past few years and something has to be done about wiping out the crime and earning the people’s trust in the local government.  People feel that the city leaders care more about the financial condition of the downtown area than they do about the citizens that voted them into office. When is Mobile going to make the top of any worthwhile lists in this nation?

Mobile, Alabama did not even rate honorable mention on the list of safest cities in the U.S.! See this web site - http://www.forbes.com/2009/10/26/safest-cities-ten-lifestyle-real-estate-metros-msa_chart.html?partner=yahoore because it is legit and Sam Jones had no influence over the investigative research these people did. Like it or not, the people that always believe what Mobile’s mayor and city council says is absolute gospel need to start paying attention to facts and figures that disprove most of the claims that are made by them especially concerning the crime in Mobile. Where is the proof that that wood moonpie actually made 4-million dollars for the city that one night? They can’t provide any concrete proof, can they? The total amount of crime in Mobile continues to rise. Sam Jones tries to annex more areas so that the crimes percapita (per population count) spreads the number of crimes over a wider area so that the claim can be made that crime is down, but it is actually up and the count manipulated to make it look better than it actually is. Mobile is not on the safest city list for a very good reason - it does not deserve to be there. JMO
