If you're zipping along to your 4th of July vacation spot, you better not be too fast.

“The goal of the holiday weekend is to enjoy yourself and have a good time and we understand that and want everybody to enjoy themselves but we want them to do it safely,” says Corporal Joe Piggott with Alabama State Troopers. I-10 was is one of the spots crawling with state troopers this weekend. I shot the video you see in the window above around exit 10 and saw at least four drivers pulled over at any given time.

“Every available state trooper's out working the highways and byways of the state we're using the laser version of radar we're doing driver's license safety checks in Mobile and Baldwin counties,” says Piggott. Last year 16 people were killed along Alabama highways during the 4th of July weekend. State troopers are looking for anyone going over the speed limit or driving impaired.
One of the biggest tips to avoid being pulled over or getting a citation is to just pay attention to what you're doing on the road.

“Most people we stop, they didn't realize their speed, or at least that's their story, so pay attention to your speed pay attention to the distance of the car in front of you leave room between you and the car in front of you,” says Piggott. Piggott says state troopers wrote 60 citations today in less than two hours along Interstate 10. The high enforcement period ends early Monday morning at midnight.
