MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Alabama's Unemployment CompensationCalls Centers will be open on Monday even though it's a holiday for
Presidents' Day.
State Industrial Relations Director Tom Surtees says a lot of
Alabamians are suffering, and he wants the offices to be open to
help them.
The phone number to call for unemployment benefits is
1-866-234-5382. Unemployed Alabamians can also file through the Web
site of the Department of Industrial Relations.
The state's jobless rate jumped to 6.7 percent in December, the
highest rate in more than 15 years.
