Africatown History Motorcade

History Drive A special event for African American heritage.

A bit of history rolled through the Happy Hill area today. Some dressed in traditional African garb
Others just drove. It was part of the Africatown USA Folk Festival motorcade. About two dozens cars drove around the area in observation of the final slave ship to land in the United States almost 150 years ago. Organizers say it's good to remember history.

“If you don't know where you've come from you don't know where you're going so it's very important to know about your heritage to make a successful life,” says driver Glender Montgomery. The motorcade was part of a whole day of events celebrating cultural history in Mobile County.

Yes it’s good to remember History,so when the Confederate groups want to show their Heritage I don’t want to hear anything from the Klan with a tan(NAACP).I don’t want to hear anything about the Battle Flag of the South,that’s part of History.And as far as the Black race really being
all African American I don’t think so.The term entered into usage largely starting in 1988, when the Rev. Jesse Jackson held a news conference to urge Americans to use it to refer to blacks.

The term has been subject of debate, in part because it is ambiguous. It might be limited to Africans who have immigrated to America or to people born to one African and one American parent. Some have argued that the term African American should refer only to the descendants of slaves brought from Africa to America.

From a scientific viewpoint, the term African-American makes absolutely no sense. .
