Accused cop killer Richard Hollingsworth will not get out of jail before his trial.

The 18-year-old made his first court appearance Friday morning. Judge Hardesty denied Hollingsworth bond. Prosecutors argued Hollingsworth is a flight risk, pointing out that he was arrested when he crashed during a police chase.

Hollingsworth is charged with capital murder. Mobile police say he shot and killed Officer Brandon Sigler Tuesday night at the Tyler Ridge Apartments in West Mobile. Friday in court, prosecutors revealed the stolen gun Hollingsworth used was stolen from Mobile County Sheriff's Deputy Frank Cassidy.

Hollingsworth, who was crying as he entered the courtroom, also plead not guilty.

News 5 has learned Hollingsworth did have a juvenile record and was out on probation at the time of the shooting.

Hollingsworth went to Baker High School but did not earn a diploma from there. According to his attorney, Hollingsworth dropped out in the 12th grade and got his GED.

News 5's Tiffany Craig was at Government Plaza for the bond hearing. She'll have all the details tonight on News 5 at 5:00 and 6:00.

Thank you rolltider. It is likely that you are thinking of the same person, especially since you are a huge Alabama fan as well. She was a true Alabama, Roll Tide fan. You could also be guaranteed to have a good time with her at Mardi Gras. She was a wonderful mother to her daughter’s and a wonderful grandmother to her grandchildren, they were her pride and joy. Not a week goes by that I do not think about what happened. I made sure to be in that court room when the guilt verdict was read, and the feeling of justice that we all felt was overwhelming, I do not think there was a dry eye in the room. I was so glad that the LE in this case were so dedicated in finding who did this to her. It took no more than 2 to 3 days for them to catch him. So to them I will always share my gratitude.

minimay, I am sorry for your loss.  If I am thinking of the same person, I knew her as well and she was a beautiful person.

Rest in Sweet Peace Brandon Sigler.  I know your beautiful smile is shining down on us.  It has been hard listening to the stories about your life from your brothers in blue.  Be at Peace now, your Watch is over and they will take over from here.

As will we all minimay. For whatever sins we commit against each other.

he did. The same will go with the case of Officer Sigler. He is in a better place now and will always be watching over his friends, family, and fellow officers. The suspect in this case will have the big judgment day at one point.

MomInBama,
I feel your frustration on the whole paying for them to have three square meals, and a place to sleep from here on out. In my opinion if anyone is having to foot the bill for their stay in prison, why not the family or next of kin? However, I do not think the family should have to pay for the suspects mistakes if they had not involvement with the crime. But, the sad truth is even if he is put on death row, it will still more than likely be another 20 something years before the death penalty is actually carried out. My Aunt was murdered right after hurricane Ivan, and the man the committed the murder was sentenced to death, but I know it will still be a long time before he pays his dues. Especially since he had many more cases after my Aunt’s that had to be tried of other women that he had killed. The only thing that we know for certain is that my Aunt is in a better place and it watching over us, and the scum bag will meet his maker one day and have to answer to what

This is a sad situation all the way around, A man lost his life for nothing,an 18 yr old man was raised thinking its ok for him to carry a gun and just shoot anyone he wants for any reason. It shouldn’t matter that the officer did or did not present himself as a cop, he was shot for being in a certain place, this 18 yr old could have tried talking to him instead of just shooting. As for the death penalty I think he deserves it, why should my tax dollars pay for him to spend the rest of his life in jail, I am tired of paying for convicts to sit in jail, and lazy people sitting at home doing nothing but taking money from tax payers, he did the crime he deserves what he gets, but I shouldnt have to pay for him to get 3 meals a day, exercise equipment, tv, etc for the next 50- 60 yrs.

Seek1234 I think you hit what I was saying on point just a little more, hmm whats the word, bluntly.

I think the thing that makes it hard for some people to feel that this crime is as horrible as it is the age of the young boy. Yes he is young, but so was the officer. Mid twenty’s is not old. Does Joey regret what he did? I think he regrets getting caught. He is scared out of his mind right now. Understandable. I do think he wishes that he could take it all back as well. But whats done is done. Him being 18 means he should get tried as an adult and he will. I have mixed emotions about the death penalty though. I would think life with no parole would be enough especially with him being so young. I would think living with thinking about what you did until you die of natural causes would be even worse. That is if the individual is truly remorseful.

You are sad hearagain. You just don’t get it do you? A thug cop killer like this creep is the worst kind of dog dung. There will be officers from ACROSS the nation mourning the loss of Officer Sigler. We will have officers from coast to coast wearing the black bands, and some even making the drive for the funeral. LE, and actually the whole public service sector-LE, fire department, EMT-see real life, not the fantasy world you live in. This is a “family” regardless of color, regardless of department or precinct. So we will all continue to miss a “brother” needlessly and senselessly murdered in cold blood by a loose cannon thug. Don’t think for one minute that anyone other than the one’s with delusions, as yourself, think this was a “good kid,” feel any kind of sympathy for him. For his family, perhaps, for him hell no.

If the Officer broke up the girls earlier, wouldn’t that fact have been relayed to Hollingsworth?

I don’t know, but I would think so. Why would she not tell him? That would have let him know that an Officer was at the complex, and when you show up and a guy with a gun on hip approaches telling you to leave….that might just be the Officer your girl told you about earlier.

Then again that’s common sense, and this situation is void of that.
