Doctors fear a 9-year-old Robertsdale girl who was hit by a car may never walk again.

Megan Busch and her two teenage friends were walking home from a convenience store on New Years Eve when they were hit by a car on County Road 65 north of Pope Street.

Busch remains hospitalized at UAB in Birmingham. Busch's uncle tells News 5 she has a spinal cord injury and doctors fear she will be confined to a wheelchair for the rest of her life.

What is the latest on these three girls?  Are they getting good medical care?  Are they improving?

It always seems more tragic for me when it’s a child for some reason and yet they seem to be the most spirited after their accident than other age groups. My best wishes for this young lady.

carl, study the miami institue.  its not always medicine but research on how to get the spinal cord to heal. its very complex. the only nerve that will not heal. the spine controls so much. i just hate it for this child. its bad for an adult but a young child or young adult. its a shame.

The Shriners Is a good one and I use to contribute what ever I could to them and St.Jude’s,I think a lot of both.If there is money to be made there will be a lot more research being done by these big drug companies and others and a lot more hospitals will be opened for these cases not as common as other more profitable disabilities and diseases. If money were no object I’m sure we would have places in every large city doing research and places to be treated. For the most part it gets right back to money in one form or another or the lack of money or so it seems to me.

amen bamabob, contact the shriners and also research spinal cord treatment at the christopher reeves sight.

treatment of a 9 year old is more than about money its about research. knowledge. alabama is way far behind on treatment. some states have programs in place alabama does not. uab is not cheap for the time to go to uab you could go to shepherds clinic in atlanta and like i said the shriners is also a option.

Treatment is all about money and opportunity.  All doctors did not make straight A’s in med school.

No charges, it was just a terrible accident.  The driver that hit them made a comment on one of the WKRG stories.  He was very remorseful and so sorry it happened.

I believe getting treatment for such injuries is all about money. The more cases there are of such injuries the greater the likely hood there will be of a treatment center for them and vise a versa.I’m reading a book now along that line, about how Universities and drug companies are operating in selling their treatments and gene therapy for different injuries and ills. Some of the people who donate their genetic material can’t afford the treatments after these organizations patent every thing.
