As many as eight armed robbery suspects could still be on the run after a rash of hold-ups in Mobile. In less than 24-hours, police say 6 businesses were hit and a person was robbed at gunpoint outside a grocery store on Springhill Avenue. The crimes happened Sunday into early Monday morning. Police say they're alarmed by those numbers and they've stepped up patrols, "when we do have incidents of this nature occur we do have more patrols handling these areas and patrolling these areas looking and trying to deter this criminal activity," said Mobile Police Cpl. Charles Bagsby. Police say they're still investigating whether the crimes are related.

They say that the crime rate in Mobile is one of the highest in Alabama, outside of Birmingham and Prichard.  It would be a feather in their collective caps, if the mayor and the city council could combine their efforts and do a massive crackdown on the many crime-centers in Mobile and destroy the majority of this crime-wave before their elections come up again later this year.  They should play no favoritism in regards to what color a person’s skin is and make a point of advertising each and every arrest, so that other would-be law-breakers will be made aware that they are being watched. It could be said that by not cracking down on criminal activity within Mobile, that the mayor and city leaders are condoning this stuff and turning their backs on it.  Most people are afraid to venture out at night in downtown Mobile, Crighton, and most places where the police do not have a constant presence.  Very few feel safe in Mobile and this needs to change. Worrying about whether or not this effort will turn people against the city leaders (and thus affect their re-elections) should not influence the crackdown on crime in Mobile.  JMO

Still believe those crime rate numbers that are being hand fed to the public?
