Mobile County Animal Control now says that more than 200 malnourished birds were found at the home - some of them dead.

6:36 p.m.
Mobile County Animal Control has seized more than 115 malnourished chickens from a home on South Oaks Trail in West Mobile.

Animal Control officers went to the home around 2:45 p.m. after receiving a tip about the birds. They found the malnourished birds, along with 10 dead chickens, in the back yard.

Officer Carmelo Miranda tells News 5 equipment found at the home indicates the birds were being trained to fight.

Animal Control is looking for the man who owns the property, Panya Holmes. He's considered a person of interest.

Animal Control is also looking for a temporary facility where they can house the birds until the case is resolved.

Nothing unusual about raising fighting chickens in south Mobile County.  Just ride around and you can see the cages in peoples yards.  You can start on St Elmo Circle.

Explain something to me. Why is it a felony in Florida, but only a misdameaner in Alabama & Mississippi to abuse animals? It’s like we are telling everyone else that we have no regards or considerations for other animals in the world! And that we believe that animals have no feelings! I know for certain… They hurt just like we do! It should be a felony in Alabama & Mississippi, too!

No they are not giving the chickens back to the abuser. He is wanted by Aminal Control Law Enforcement. It was disgusting and gross in the back yard. It is said that this house is in front of this nice neighborhood.

i HEARD kfc has applied for “Temporary Custody”

it’s in grand bay off dawes about a mile passed three notch on the left. i passed yesterday & there was a chicken in the yard. didnt think much of it because every now & then you’ll see a chicken in their yard. however, when i seen half the world in their yard knew something was up but, never would have guessed it was chickens.

Where is South Oaks Trail?  I tried to look it up on Mapquest but couldn’t find it.

Whoever the owner of the chickens is has nothing to worry about just look at Mike Vick.

I would gladly come get some to BB-Q or put in a pot. Many an old rooster has lost the will to fight and found its way into some soup or dumplings. No money made on gambling but maybe two ffty a bowel.

Surely they’re not going to consider giving the chickens back to the abusers?!
